Your new puppy needs a series of vaccinations in the first year of life to protect him/her from many dangerous diseases as his immune system develops (matures). This gives your puppy the BEST possible start in Life!

What vaccinations do you provide to new puppies?

We vaccinate new puppies with the same core vaccine as adult dogs. Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza and Parvovirus. They just need to be given three doses of this vaccine, one month apart for three months. Depending on their expected lifestyle, Bordetella (kennel cough) will be given if warranted and Rabies we usually administer at their final vaccine appointment.

Why is it important to vaccinate your puppy?

Puppies are born with some immunity from their mother. This protection can end between 4-8 weeks and varies for each pup. This is why puppies receive the appropriate immune response required to create their protection, known as antibodies. It is very important to complete the three series vaccine protocol and to keep them away from public places until their immunity is in place.

At what age should I bring my puppy for their vaccinations?

Most breeders and rescues will vaccinate puppies with their first vaccines between 6-8 weeks of age. This vaccine needs the second booster four weeks later, then a 3rd booster four weeks after that. The final vaccine appointment will usually include Rabies too.

How should I prepare my puppy for their first vaccination visit?

Try to remain calm! This is not a big deal for them, but they will feed off our emotions, so if you are anxious they may be too! We try to make this a positive experience for them with lots of cuddles, treats, and often a tour for them to meet everyone and help socialize them. The doctors will give them a look over, and if they get the clean bill of health, they are often unknowingly vaccinated while enjoying some treats.
