Blood Tests

Blood tests on cats can help veterinarians diagnose all sorts of conditions and illnesses. Some tests are performed within our clinic, and others are sent away to external laboratories.

Why are blood tests important for my cat’s health?

Blood tests are important as they can tell us what is going on inside their bodies and how their organs are functioning. We check your cat’s blood cells and liver and kidneys. We can also test for different health conditions that cats are prone to; i.e. Diabetes, thyroid etc.

How long does it take to get blood test results?

If we perform the blood test in-house, results are ready in approximately 15-20 minutes. If the blood work is sent out to an outside lab, results are usually back within 24 hours. Try to make sure your kitty is calm and not too stressed out before you come. We will book an appointment early in the day when it’s not too busy in the clinic. If your cat is a little stressed out, we can put you both into a nice quiet room, away from all the commotion. Our technicians are awesome at taking cat’s blood, quickly and efficiently, with little restraint and hopefully, next to no stress.

How often should blood tests be done?

Depending on what blood tests we are running and for what condition, tells us how frequently the tests need to be performed.

Does your clinic perform urinalysis and biopsy?

Yes, we can perform urinalysis in-house and we also send them out to an external lab.
